Support Worker Guidelines for Individual grant applications to

Barnes Cotton Districts Charity

The Barnes Cotton Districts Charity provides regular financial assistance to people suffering from severe or incurable illness/disability and for people convalescing from such illness, whilst continuing to live in their own home.

Who may apply?

We can consider applications from Support Workers for Individuals living within the geographical areas of Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Craven District of North Yorkshire, High Peak Derbyshire, Macclesfield and Warrington in Cheshire and the Calderdale District of West Yorkshire.  On occasions the Charity will also provide funding to other Charities within the same geographical areas, working in support of a similar clientele via matched provision.

Application Process

  • Applications must be completed and submitted by a Support Worker, on behalf of an applicant
  • The Support Worker must be the person (and organisation) who is working most closely with the applicant at this time
  • Support Workers can be Social Workers, Medical Practitioners, Key Health Workers, Housing Support Officers, or any other statutory or key charitable organisation who is working with the applicant at their time of need
  • Self referrals will not be accepted
  • Referrals completed by carers, friends or family members will not be accepted

Who do we support?

  • People on low income and living with a permanent severe illness/disability
  • People on low income recuperating from a serious illness
  • People requiring specific items of equipment relating to the illness/disability

What do we not support?

  • Carers salaries/expenses
  • Trustees will not fund purchases retrospectively

Completing the Application Form

  • Open our online application form and when completed click submit
  • Ensure ALL sections of the form are completed. Any incomplete form will NOT be passed on to the trustees for review.
  • Ensure that the financial form is completed and with only MONTHLY amounts. Omissions will not be accepted. Any discrepancies or surpluses or large deficits must be explained. All figures should be accurate
  • Check the Application Form is complete
  • Ensure you have signed it (or e-signed it) and completed your details including your contact email and phone number.

What Happens Next

  • All information contained in the application is treated as confidential.  However, it should be pointed out that the information will be shared with all the Trustees
  • Trustees meet quarterly in January, April, July and October. To ensure your application is considered at the next available meeting it should be emailed to our administrators by the end of December, March, June and September respectively
  • Please note the Trustees’ decision is final. Reasons for unsuccessful applications will not be given

  • Deadline: 26th June 2025, Meeting: 10th July 2025
  • Deadline: 25th September 2025, Meeting: 9th October 2025
